This photo was, together with a media statement of Mr. Andrew Gerber, the FF Plus' member in the Northwest Legislature, sent to all media. The majority of the mainstream media decided not to use this story or the photos. These blocks of flats in Mmabatho were recently sold in an auction. White bidders also bought some of the flats in the block. By spray-painting these slogans on the walls a clear message was sent to the white bidders that they will not be tolerated at their new properties.

black2.jpg (23362 bytes)These racist and shocking slogans were spray-painted on the walls of the Gatholo Heights in Mmabatho in the Northwest province. "Racism should consistently be opposed on all levels. Why do we not hear about this? Extremists will always be found with all groups. The test comes in how action is taken against them. Double standards on racism will worsen South Africa's problems and will not improve them. Racism dare not be criticised on a selective basis", was the reaction of Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the Freedom Front Plus to these slogans.

Double standards on racism is unacceptable: Mafikeng - Hotbed of black racism

Press release by Mr. Andrew Gerber, FF Plus member of the Northwest Legislature

The impression that was created in media reports in South Africa and across the world this past week, that all white people in South Africa are racist, is untrue and one-sided.  Mafikeng, where the building of the Northwest Province Legislature is situated, is a hotbed of black racism.  Apartment blocks in Mmabatho that were recently sold in controversial transactions, also to white people, are covered in slogans with a clear message that white people would not be tolerated.  Countless slogans on these buildings broadcast the message: "No whites.  Blacks only."

Mr. Andrew Gerber, FF Plus member of the Northwest Legislature, says in a media release that it portrays unbridled racism towards white people.  "If the same message at a hostel in Bloemfontein was carried over to black students, that hostel would have gone up in flames that very same day."

He added that it is very upsetting that double standards exist when it comes to racism in South Africa.  When an elderly woman of Naboomspruit (Mookgophong) is tortured next to her dying husband and her fingers cut off with garden-shears, there is no condemnation from within black ranks. The more than 2000 farm murders since 1994 are also always passed off as ordinary crime.

South Africa needs to learn a lesson from the events in Bloemfontein and Mafikeng.  Open and penetrating talks should be held on ethnicity in South Africa.  While it is a subject of discussion across Africa and the rest of the world, South Africans are, because of political correctness, reluctant to put it on the public agenda.

The fact is that ethnic awareness is a reality that needs to be acknowledged for a permanent solution in South Africa with its eleven official languages.  It is in fact a reality that is recognised and respected world wide.  Ethnic diversity is part of Africa.  Kenia recently experienced serious disputes between diffirent ethnic groups.  In its constitution Ethiopia makes provision for ethnicity and even recognises the right of an ethnic group to politically detach themselves from the rest of the population.

The Palestines are fighting for self-determination.  Kosovo in East Europe recently declared themselves independent. It is time that emotions over this subject are replaced with soberness.  To ignore ethnic diversity will not make it disappear.
